BLANKENSHIP

A story about leaving one mission, building the next one, and learning that the best way forward is usually to get in the arena.

THE FIRST MISSION

I joined the Navy chasing a hard path and eventually became a Dive Medical Technician, combining military diving with emergency and hyperbaric medicine. I supported Naval Special Warfare training and later served with Undersea Rescue Command, working in high-risk diving and undersea rescue environments where the standard was simple: be useful, stay calm, and take care of the people next to you.

TEAM BEFORE TITLE

The part I missed most after leaving the military wasn't the uniform. It was the mission, the accountability, and being surrounded by people who expected a lot from each other. That lesson has followed me into every business, team, and community I've built since.

LEARNING THE CAPITAL SIDE

When I left the Navy, I moved into commercial real estate and multifamily investing, working in investor relations and capital raising. It was my first real exposure to how deals were structured, how investors evaluated opportunities, and how capital actually moved behind businesses and real estate.

I learned a lot from being around private capital, but I also realized I didn't want to spend my career watching other people build. I wanted to eventually be responsible for the outcome myself.

FROM LEARNING TO LEADING

I started hosting local real estate meetups, surrounding myself with entrepreneurs and investors, and getting involved in masterminds focused on business, investing, and personal growth. Those rooms accelerated my education and gave me a network of people actually doing the things I wanted to do.

Over time I also began coaching around small business acquisitions, helping entrepreneurs think through buying, financing, and operating existing businesses. Eventually I had to put all of that learning to the test myself.

BUILDING A NEW MISSION

My own transition led me to start Vets & Valor around a simple idea: entrepreneurship and business ownership could give veterans another mission after service. I built the platform around acquisition entrepreneurship, operator development, financing, diligence, and post-close operations, then raised roughly $1 million of outside capital to put the thesis into practice.

FROM THESIS TO OPERATOR

The original operating plan didn't work, so I stepped into the business myself. Valor Peak became the real education: people, cash flow, sales, production, distribution, capital, hard decisions, and the reality of being responsible when there isn't anyone else to hand the problem to.

I eventually sold the company. More important than the transaction was the operating rep. I learned more by actually running one business than I ever could have learned studying entrepreneurship from the outside.

THE HARD STUFF IS THE POINT

Physical pursuits have always been part of how I reset, test myself, and stay grounded. I've competed in powerlifting, run ultras and a 100-miler, and completed a full Ironman. I'm also an Athlete Ambassador for the Naval Special Operations Forces Foundation, using endurance events as a way to support the community that shaped a huge part of who I am.

The Life Behind the Work

MORE THAN BUSINESS.

Building companies matters to me, but it is not the whole point. The life I am trying to build has room for the people I love, hard pursuits, new places, and enough freedom to actually enjoy all of it.

Eden

I got engaged to my beautiful fiancée, Eden, in July 2026. Whatever I build next has to fit into a life we are excited to build together.

BUY. OPERATE.
BUILD.

After selling Valor Peak, I didn't want to jump into something just to stay busy. I took time to meet operators, investors, veterans, and business owners and think deliberately about what I wanted the next chapter to look like.

I'm now actively looking for the next established business to acquire and operate in the Salt Lake City area. I'm industry agnostic. I care more about durable cash flow, good people, a strong underlying business, and the opportunity to build something meaningful over the long term.
